The Whitley is a happy, vibrant, welcoming school where individuals are valued and their confidence developed in a secure and inclusive learning environment. We recognise and celebrate achievement both in and beyond the classroom and emphasise the special part played by teamwork between pupils, parents, staff and governors.
The school has a committed team of teachers, support staff, governors and parents who together strive to create the best possible learning environment for the children. Visitors always comment on the warm, welcoming atmosphere prevalent in the school.
As a Voluntary Aided school we enjoy a particularly warm and productive relationship with the parish church and the wider community. Although few children come from families with a strong church connection the school endeavours to maintain its mission as outlined in the Instrument of Government by providing education of the highest quality within the context of the school ethos that puts high value on Christian beliefs and practices. The church is used for both worship and curriculum work and members of the parish serve on the Governing Body and help out in school.
We endeavour to provide a stimulating, creative environment in which pupils can flourish and develop individual strengths and talents. In 2005 we became a 'Creative Partnerships' School which enabled us to work with a variety of creatives on a range of exciting projects. In 2009 we were awarded National School of Creativity Status in recogntion of our work in this area. Please browse the website to have a look at some of the things we have been doing.
The 'fun' element is a characteristic of the school and is remarked upon by parents and visitors alike. Children and staff are given lots of opportunities to express their talents and individuality. Christmas performances always involve every child in the school and the 'Christmas Fairy', the 'Santettes' and whole school dancing is a must on Christmas lunch day!
We also have Healthy Schools Status, Active Mark and Football Charter Status and Eco Schools Silver Award.
We also enjoy an excellent relationship with our local Middle school.
I hope the school website gives you a flavour of our school. If you require any further information please contact us.
We will be
more than happy to help.
