Dear Parents

FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

Haiti Appeal

A huge thank you to everyone for supporting this appeal. The generosity of our families is amazing. It was a really moving service, particularly the messages from the children. Let’s hope the money raised will go some way to helping the people of Haiti rebuild their lives. Special thanks to all those parents who stayed behind to help count the money. As I write they are still counting and there still seems a long way to go!

Staff News

Mrs Johnston will be retiring at the end of the academic year. She has been with us for 10 years and I know has thoroughly enjoyed her time here. She has been a valued member of staff and will be greatly missed.

Sadly, for me, I will also be leaving at the end of the year. I have not taken this decision lightly but the increased bureaucracy, brought about by constant changes to the education system, has made the job unmanageable. I seem to spend more and more time in the office and less and less time with the children which is not what I came into teaching to do. I have loved my time at the Whitley and have been privileged to work with a host of wonderful children, families, staff and members of the community. We have done many exciting things together and achieved a great deal. It is a very special place and I shall miss it greatly.

I have already shed many tears, so before I shed any more I had better move on!

The post is to be advertised next week so I will keep you informed of developments.

Achievers’ Assembly – Friday 5th March

Next Thursday is World Book day so we thought we would celebrate this at our Achievers’ Assembly next Friday. It would be great if children could come dressed as a story book character or in any other costume you have lying around the house! I know this is short notice so please don’t go to any trouble or expense. I feel a trip up to my loft coming on! £1 book tokens are available for all children and will be distributed on Friday.

Tesco and Sainsbury Vouchers for Schools

We are once again collecting vouchers which can be exchanged for a wide range of resources for the school from ICT and Sports equipment to Cooking and Eco/Outdoor resources. Sainsbury’s campaign has already started and Tesco will be issuing vouchers from next week so please start collecting and send any vouchers you receive into school.

Yours sincerely
